Frankie Gavin and Curtis Woodhouse came face to face on Thursday at a press conference to promote their July 16 fight and no love was lost between the pair as verbals were aimed and fired in a non stop heated affair.
Former world amateur champion Gavin, has been matched with rival, former professional footballer Curtis Woodhouse for the WBO Intercontinental welterweight title in Liverpool Echo Arena on the undercard of Ricky Burns’ WBO super-featherweight title defence against Nicky Cook.
The pair were due to fight each other 8 months ago, but Woodhouse pulled out because of a hand fracture sustained in training. But with the hand now fully healed, he promised to knock-out the Birmingham prospect.

“He cannot punch. I have wanted this fight for a long time and I have been on the phone to the Frank Warren camp constantly to get it arranged.” said Woodhouse.
“I am going to knock him out. I’ll be throwing punches. I will be in front of him all night long.
“I will be the winner. But no matter what we say before the fight, I still respect what he has done as an amateur, but that doesn’t mean I cannot win the fight.
“I have been doing things in the ring I have never done before and he won’t know what to expect. He will be the favourite but I don’t fear Frankie Gavin. If lose I will carry on boxing. If he loses he will have to retire.’’ added Yorkshireman Woodhouse.
Gavin 25, has won all ten professional bouts to date and is rated as one of the best current British based prospects. He is trained in Manchester by former fighter and now respected coach Anthony Farnell.
“You are rubbish.” Gavin told Woodhouse. “You will fall over your own feet. Your technique is terrible. You are not in the same class.
“You won’t be in front of me all night long because you will not last the distance. You couldn’t make it as a Birmingham City player and you cannot make it as a boxer. If I lose I will retire.’’ added Gavin.
Woodhouse sat up! “I hope you all got that? He said he is going to retire!
