Ashley Theophane stopped Jason Cook in the 10th round in the first defence of his British light-welterweight title
Cook, unsettled the champion early on with some intelligent pressure fighting and Theophane’s frustration was clear when he was docked a point for low blows in round five.
But the champion, regrouped, found his wind and range, started to look sharper, using his good combinations before flooring Cook with a sweet left hook to the body in round 10.
“As I expected Jason Cook started fast. It is a 12 round fight and I just felt I could stop him going in to our bout. My game plan just like with Daws, worked perfectly.” Theophane told BritishBoxers.
“I could of started fast but I let Jason waste his wild shots on my arms and gloves then I broke him down.
“I knew he was looking for a way out when he started to complain about my body shots.
From round five I got into my groove and had worked out Cook’s style and I started to have it all my own way. I think my performance showed I’m World class.
“It was a great way to get my 30th win against the Welsh champion and European number six.” he added.
