Joe Gallagher is the mastermind and driving force behind the British boxing camp that boasts a crop of up and coming prospects and proven domestic champions all under one roof in Manchester.
Together they are pushing to take on the best fighters in the world and create a legacy that will be remembered in British boxing history.
Gallagher’s gym recently saw Matthew Macklin challenge Felix Sturm for the WBA middleweight title only to lose a very controversial split decision. A rematch has been agreed and could possibly take place in November.
John Murray will face Kevin Mitchell on July 16 at Liverpool’s Echo Arena in the lightweight clash to determined who will go on to fight for the world title.
Paul and Stephen Smith joined Gallagher’s fold recently and have settled in well, Stephen claimed the British featherweight belt against John Simpson. While Paul has got his desire back for the game after losing his super-middleweight title to James DeGale and will now campaign at middleweight as he targets titles again.
Anthony Crolla, has flourished beyond recognition under Gallagher, winning the British lightweight title against John Watson and this week being confirmed to fight ring legend Erik Morales in Las Vegas on September 17. A fight Gallagher admits is Hugh one for the boxer named ‘Million Dollar’ but a fantastic opportunity they cant wait for.
Crollas fight with Morales will be showcased on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz and Gallagher sees the marketable ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla will be in fine company in the gambling capital supporting the ‘Money’ man himself in Sin City.
“It’s ironic that were Las Vegas where people blow their money, top of the bill is Floyd ‘Money Mayweather and on the undercard is ‘The Million Dollar Crolla’
“I think Anthony’s personality, his Colgate smile and his boxing nickname are gonna raise alot of eyebrows and this is gonna be Hugh for Anthony and his career and his profile on both sides of the pond and I’m sure when Floyd Mayweather looks at the bill and who’s on it and sees Morales fighting, there gonna want to know who this ‘Million Dollar’ kid is, who’s trying to steel a bit of his thunder.
“It’s a Hugh fight, but what I don’t want people to say is that this is an old Morales, like they said with Maidana, then all of a sudden saying he was fantastic and should of got the decision against Maidana.
“Lets judge Crolla against Erik Morales, if we win, don’t take it away from him. Its a massive thing for him, going over to Vegas, fighting on the world stage with the eyes of the world watching him, he’s on box office HBO, against a legend who beat Manny Pacquiao.
“We know the enormous task that were up against, but at the same token if we pull it off and there’s a chance we could. Give credit were it’s due and I’m not saying we will, but if we do, do! Don’t turn around and put slant on it saying Morales was old .
“If Morales wins, then he should have won, hes got skills that pay bills. This is a Hugh opportunity for Anthony, were in the Prizefighter business and the reward as got to be worth the risk and I think the reward what this does for Anthony Crolla in his career, it’s worth the risk.
