Amir Khan has offered boxing coach Joe Gallagher use of his Lancashire gym to train his stable of champions, after Gallagher was asked to leave his old gym at Kerry Kayes’ Denton based Betta Bodies.
Khan has personally opened his Bolton gym to John Murray, Anthony Crolla, Matthew Macklin and the Smith brothers among others trained by Gallagher and was willing to help after reading an article in the Manchester Evening News.
Gallagher revealed in his MEN column last week that he would be leaving Kerry Kayes’ Betta Bodies gym after three years there, the same head quarters where Billy Graham had the Phoenix Camp and where he trained Ricky Hatton.
But with Gallagher yet to find a permanent new base, Khan has stepped in to help.
Gallagher told the James Robson of the Manchester Evening News: “Amir read the column and told his dad to let me know we could use his Gloves Community Centre.
“I’ve known Amir ever since he was kid and it shows that even after all the success he’s had as a world champion, he still cares about other fighters.
“He knows a lot of the lads from when they were amateurs and it is a really generous offer.
“We are looking for our own permanent premises and had been offered space by a few amateur clubs.
“We are really grateful for that, but Amir’s gym is a top-class facility and with a busy six or seven weeks coming up, it is a really big help.” read more
