Amir Khan welcomed the news that he had been reinstated as the WBA champion, prior to his now unification fight against American Danny Garcia, with both belts now being on the line when the two champions meet this Saturday night (14th July) in Las Vegas.
Khan said “Justice has been done, it means this fight will show who’s the best in the division.” The WBA had said that there had been multiple irregularities in the fight with Lamont Peterson. The decision to present Khan’s old belt back to him now adds more significance to this current contest against Garcia.
Whilst Danny Garcia and his father sit in luxury in their hotel suite in Mandala Bay, awaiting fight night, the WBC title holder admitted said he doesnt have a game plan, adding he did not want to train towards a certain plan for the night, thus bringing in more adventure. Garcia says he just aims to just go ahead with whatever Khan demands of him in the ring, “ I’m not worried about his speed as he doesn’t have good timing, he leads in and I think that’s the perfect style for me, I can walk him down like Peterson did or either catch him on the outside with good timing and good counter shots.”
Amir Khan has been deeply motivated after being mocked by Danny Garcia’s father, Angel, in at a previous press conference, “I think they’re unprofessional, they’ve never been there before and maybe seeing all the media they kind of got a little star struck and it’s a shame that Danny Garcia’s gonna have to pay for it in the ring, so his father’s not gonna be the one taking the punches in the fight.” Khan said.

Just moment’s ago (Thursday night UK time) the final presser went ahead ending with Garcia’s father showing obscenities at the press and audience when Khan was talking, Khan said, “I promise I will knock him out, I will knock your son out, and I can’t wait till we stand in the press conference after the fight.” – Even though there was a lot of talking during the stare down, Khan stayed collective and had that same smile on his face before his showdown went ahead with Zab Judah. Leaving that to everyone’s imagination and of who looks more powerful will be decided on Saturday night.
As well as both WBC and WBA belts being on the line, there is also a chance that the winner could take home the prestigious Ring Magazine lightweight title. Which signifies the ultimate king of a division.
The undercard will feature Fernando Guerrero v Jose Medina, Phil Lo Greco, Jamie Kavanagh, Abner Cotto and J’Leon Love. The The fight will be aired on Sky in the UK in the early hours and HBO in the States.
