Virgil Hunter the new coach of Amir Khan gives his thoughts on his new British student and what he has been working on with the former light-welterweight champion since they joined forces last month.

Hunter who trains undisputed super-middleweight champion Andre Ward started working with Khan after the Bolton man’s defeat to Danny Garcia and his recent split with Freddie Roach and admitted he has been working on things with Khan that he feels he has neglected in previous camps namely his neck muscles and ability to absorb a shot.

“The physical work he has been doing has not been conducive for boxing ok.” said Hunter.

“They have created imbalances in his body in areas that effects him the way he holds his hands, effects him in fatigue areas and first and foremost his neck has never been addressed, he has never done any neck work in his whole life.

“So it’s amazing to me just his natural strength that he could even take a punch of that caliber. I mean thats the first thing you do, you build the traps in your neck up, he needs about two more inches on his neck and he needs about another inch and half on his traps and thats what were addressing right now.

“Those are your bumping cushions because when your hit, thats what stops your neck from snapping around. There are alot of things to address but they will make a difference. Hunter added.
