Carl Frampton became the IBF super-bantamweight champion in front of 16,000 adoring fans at the purpose built, open-air venue, the Titanic Quarter on the banks where the famous ship was built. The unbeaten Tigers Bay star was in fine form has he took the title off the proud Spanish champion Kiko Martinez via unanimous decision.
Barry McGuigan prodigy Frampton, 27, is well on the way to emulating his hero McGuigan and the event was reminiscent of them ‘Clones Cyclone’ nights. The Titanic event was the largest boxing match ever staged in Northern Ireland and the fans came out to welcome a new hero. The Belfast fans know their boxing inside out and are hardcore supporters, if this is a taste of things to come, they are to be rewarded for their backing with some more fantastic nights in that beautiful city.
