Reigning IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby says he is happy to wait and face the winner of next weeks fight between Leo Santa Cruz and Belfast’s Carl Frampton.
The unbeaten former super-bantamweight champion Frampton will step up to featherweight in his attempt to dethrone WBA featherweight king Santa Cruz this Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Selby has not fought since his successful title defence against Eric Hunter in April and he may well bide his time now and wait for the Cruz-Frampton victor and face them in a unification showdown. If Frampton can pull off the win across the pond – Selby vs Frampton would be a big fight in the UK.
“It’s the fight I want. I just want the winner between the pair of them and if Frampton wins then it’ll be him I want to face.” said Selby.
“I doubt Santa Cruz would come to Britain. He’s saying it but I wouldn’t have thought so. I would rather have it here but I just can’t see him travelling for the fight.
“I probably won’t fight again before I hopefully fight the winner, I’ll probably only fight again once this year. I just want to be in the big fights and that’s the biggest fight out there at the moment so I’d rather wait for that.”
