Birmingham’s Kal Yafai made history tonight by becoming the first world champion in the modern history of the city to bring home a world title belt following a flaccid performance by former holder Luis Concepcion, who lost his belt on the scales after failing to make weight yesterday.
“It is unbelievable, I knew I was going to do it, it was just a matter of how,” he said when speaking about the win to Sky Sports. “Everyone has said it is punch perfect, I don’t think so, I just did what I needed to do in there and still feel like there is a lot more to give. This will take me up to another level now.”
