Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions announced on Friday that British middleweight champion Denzel Bentley will defend his Lord Lonsdale belt versus Manchester’s Marcus Morrison on September 16th, live on BT Sport.
Bentley looks to make the first successful defence of his second reign as champion at the iconic York Hall in Bethnal Green, four months on from his split-decision victory over Linus Udofia to claim the vacant belt. Morrison meanwhile hasn’t fought since his fourth-round stoppage defeat to Zach Parker in November of last year, and will be hopeful of picking up his first major title since turning professional in 2014 respectively.
The undercard features Liverpool’s heavy-handed super-bantamweight Andrew Cain who is undefeated inside ten fights, of which only one has gone the distance. The twenty-six-year-old has scored two consecutive first-round knockouts in his last two outings and will be hoping to add a third on September 16th. An opponent for Cain has not yet been confirmed at the current time of writing.
Ellis Zorro returns for the first time since winning the BOXXER Cruiserweight Series tournament back in May, stepping in with the experienced Dec Spelman. Zorro impressed throughout his three bouts at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse on the night and will face a man who has gone the distance with the likes of Lyndon Arthur and Anthony Yarde respectively, marking a clear step-up from previous opponents as his professional development continues at cruiserweight.
Also confirmed to feature on the night is super-middleweight Willy Hutchinson, who looks to regain momentum following his comeback victory in Telford back in June, as well as 2-0-0 super-featherweight Royston Barney-Smith who takes on Paul Holt. Fellow 130-pounder Frank Arnold also returns, along with super-bantamweight prospect Adan Mohamed. Welterweight Khalid Ali is also slated to feature.
