Leicester’s Kyle Haywood just about kept his hands on his Midlands Area title at super-welterweight following a 96-96 draw with Ryan Amos at the Leicester Arena on Saturday night.

Haywood entered the bout looking to make the first successful defence of the belt following his victory over Alex Fearon twelve months ago to become champion, a feat he technically achieved following a razor tight encounter with the unbeaten Amos this weekend. A rematch between the pair could potentially be on the cards given the close nature of the first bout in the East Midlands.

The undercard saw a second-round stoppage victory for Stanley Stannard over Daniel Urbanski at middleweight as well as a comfortable six-round points victory for Ellis Hopkins over Ester Konecna at super-welterweight. Bradley Goldsmith maintained his unbeaten record with a first-round stoppage of Jiri Kroupa at 168lbs, while Connor Ireson suffered a shock first pro defeat in his fifth outing against Mykhailo Sovtus as the Ukrainian forced a stoppage in the final minute of the fourth. Liam Walsh and Martin Shaw also fought to a four-round draw at 160lbs, while Brad Bethell comfortably outpointed Naeem Ali at welterweight.

Tyler Rivers (super-welterweight) and Ryan Hearst (welterweight) both enjoyed successful professional debuts in their respective bouts against George Rogers and Fonz Alexander.
