Anthony Joshua has now entered the WBC’s heavyweight rankings at number six ahead of a potential fight with fellow Brit Tyson Fury in December.
Joshua, who suffered back-to-back defeats to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk in his previous two outings, finds himself ranked as a contender for the first time since before becoming world champion with his second-round knockout of Charles Martin in 2016.
Fury meanwhile, who holds the WBC’s version of the heavyweight title, initially looked to land an undisputed clash with Usyk before the Ukrainian said he would be unavailable until early 2023 due to injury and wanting to spend time with family. This prompted ‘The Gypsy King’ to call out his long-time rival Joshua in a video on social media, and talks appear to be progressing well as both teams move towards a huge showdown at the end of 2022.
