The WBO have officially ordered Lawrence Okolie to defend his world cruiserweight title against David Light next.

Britain’s Okolie picked up the vacant title with a sixth-round stoppage of Krzysztof Glowacki in 2021 and has since defended versus Dilan Prasovic and Michal Cieslak.

New Zealand’s Light is undefeated in twenty contests and survived a late knockdown to overcome Brandon Glanton via split-decision at the weekend.

The 31-year-old has primarily fought out of his native New Zealand.

The two teams have 20 days to reach an agreement before a purse bid is called.

Okolie is currently embroiled in a promotional dispute with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing who insist legal action will be taken if he fails to fulfil the final fight remaining on his contract.

The 29-year-old compared Hearn to a plantation owner in a sequence of now deleted tweets back in July and appears unhappy with his current promotional situation.
