The highly-anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on May 20th has been postponed after the latter pulled out through injury.

Matchroom Boxing released a statement on Tuesday afternoon declaring ‘the bout on May 20 will not go ahead as planned.’

The statement also says ‘the teams are in discussion about finding a revised date for the bout.’

Ireland’s Taylor emerged a split-decision victor over Serrano in April last year after ten pulsating rounds at Madison Square Garden to defend her undisputed lightweight titles.

The 36-year-old was set to return to her native Ireland for the rematch in her first professional fight in the country.

Dublin’s Croke Park, which holds a capacity of over 82,000 people, was initially touted for the bout.

The city’s 3Arena looked a more likely candidate however due to security costs associated with holding the fight at the Gaelic Games Stadium.

It is not yet clear if Taylor will wait for Serrano to regain fitness or opt to take on another opponent in the meantime.
