The long-awaited clash has finally come to a close with Brit Tommy Fury (9-0, 4 KOs) securing a split decision points victory over YouTube sensation Jake Paul (6-1, 4 KOs) in Saudi Arabia. One judge had the bout 75-74 to Paul with the others having it scored 76-73 in favour of the winner Tommy Fury.

Points were taken off both boxers in the bout along with Tommy falling to the canvas at one point to which he was given a count, although this could be considered a slip and he quickly arose. Regardless of this, the round was then 10-8 in favour of Paul.

Tommy’s experience and boxing background appeared to benefit him throughout the fight, with Paul struggling to work with the Mancs jab early on in the fight. The first two rounds appeared to be clear 10-9s in favour of Fury. Paul seemed to step up his game in the third round but had little success when attempting to catch Fury with power shots. Paul then had a point deducted in the 5th for hitting Fury in the back of the head. Paul was aware he was down on the score cards and continued to attempt to land power shots, with Fury outboxing him to the most part.  In the sixth round a point was then taken from Fury which gave Paul some hope however Fury still appeared to control the pace of the fight. As the fight entered the 8th and final round Fury fell to the canvas and was giving a standing count after quickly jumping to his feet. However, Fury told the referee he had slipped which could have been the case when analysing how his feet were placed before the fall-even though a shot landed from Paul at that moment.

Emotions were high at the end of the bout with the Brit coming to tears.  He also dedicated his victory to his partner Molly-Mae and new-born daughter Bambi- “I wanna dedicate this fight to my new baby girl Bambi at home and my Mrs” Fury exclaimed in his post-fight interview. Fury also stated- “I had pressure on my shoulders, and I came through.”.

The pair were both questioned about a rematch at the end of bout with Paul answering- “100%, Lets run it back”. Tommy also responded- “If he wants a rematch, bring it on!”

Regardless of the fact Paul is a Youtuber and previous Disney channel star it is undeniable that Tommy had a vast amount of pressure on his shoulders to make a statement in a fight of that magnitude and get the victory to which he is to be congratulated on, aged only 23 years old. The Brit is also to the most part still a novice in the pro boxing world and had never before headlined a show. The fight then acts as a positive learning curve for him and will assist him in dealing with the pressures of big events and moments of adversity further in his career.
