British super-lightweight Ohara Davies has signed a promotional deal with Oscar De La Hoya‘s Golden Boy Promotions.

The announcement comes ahead of Davies’ planned showdown with WBA super-lightweight champion Rolly Romero in the near future.

Davies expressed his delight about the new deal on social media, writing: “It’s now time to make my dream a reality – when I’m focused I can and I will do the impossible – thanks to Lee Eaton for doing just what a good manager should do…this is a match made in heaven.”

The 31 year old is mandatory champion for Romero’s WBA crown and the purse bid was initially set to take place today before it was delayed by the governing body due to a medical issue on the champion’s part.

It is yet to be confirmed when the purse bid will be rescheduled for.

“Romero’s team presented a medical report which is being analyzed by our medical committee members”, wrote the WBA in an email posted by Davies’ manager Lee Eaton.

“For that reason, WBA Championships Committee has decided to postpone until further notice.”

Romero claimed the title with a controversial ninth-round stoppage over 41 year old Ismael Barroso in May.

Both men had been floored earlier in the canvas before referee Tony Weeks peculiarly halted the action with 19 seconds remaining in the round.
