Furious Kell Brook has hit back at Michael Jennings – and told him “I’m no one’s number two”.
The pair meet in a long awaited British blockbuster showdown on September 18 at the LG Arena in Birmingham.
Brook’s WBO Intercontinental Welterweight title will be on the line and it also doubles up as an Eliminator for the World title.
Last week, former British champion Jennings declared that Yorkshire rival Brook was second best.
He told Brook’s local paper, the Sheffield Star: “Right now Kell is probably the best in Britain other than me. Matthew Hatton has come on a lot and in the future he might be better, but at the moment, Kell is the toughest opponent I could face in Britain.
“The way it stands, he’s the best in Britain apart from me. He’s the second best.”
But now unbeaten prospect Brook has had his say.
“I’m no one’s number two,” he said.
“If Jennings thinks that he is the best in the country then he is in for a shock on September 18.
“I couldn’t believe what he said and now I’m going to have to knock him out even quicker to show everyone up here that he was talking complete nonsense.
“I stopped all my British opponents when I was defending my British title, and I’ll do the same to Jennings.
“There is more than a world title eliminator on the line here, there is pride as well.
“It’s massively important to be recognised as the best in the country, and that is why it will be all the sweeter when I shut Jennings up once and for all.”
