Amir Khan has spoken of his hopes of Paul McCloskey accepting his second purse offer to fight him in Manchester on April 16th in the Bolton champions home coming. Khan also reiterated his dream to fight Floyd Mayweather and believes that fight could happen in 2012.
Khan had initially made an offer to McCloskey last week, but Barry Hearn, McCloskey’s promoter, called the amount of money that they were offering the British and European light-welterweight champion from Belfast…’A Joke’
Khan though hit back by claiming the prize on offer to McCloskey was way more than he is ever going to get in his career. But believes that the Irishman will now accept the second offer they have made and that the fight will soon be
“The offer we made to Paul McCloskey is the biggest offer he is ever gonna get the biggest offer in his whole boxing career.” said Khan.
“Why is it, whoever wants to fight Amir Khan asks for a stupid number?
“Now If Paul McCloskey thinks he is gonna beat me, I’m sure he’d think.. ‘il take whatever, Ive got the opportunity of a world title fight and if I beat him it will make me a bigger name.’
“Paul McCloskey would be a great fight, coming back home Manchester would be a good fight for me against him.
“Were still going through negotiations, Ive told my team who I want and they are happy with it and I think in the next couple of days it should be announced.
Sources say the fight is actually nearly signed and sealed, and Khan WILL be defending his WBA light-welterweight title against McCloskey, who was well within his rights to push for a better figure in this is big chance. After all boxing is a business and anyone in business will tell you bartering is an essential part of it… Its cant be taken personal, so good luck to McCloskey for holding out.
Khan though is confident he will beat McCloskey and as set his sights on a showdown with pound for pound boxing king Floyd Mayweather Jnr next year.
“That’s a dream fight I want, I think that fight can happen in 2012.” Khan told Sky Sports News.
