Dickinson Retains
16th February 2013
Jon-Lewis Dickinson made a successful first defence of his British cruiserweight title on Friday night, outpointing Sunderland’s Dave Dolan at the Rainton Meadows Arena over twelve rounds in a action packed North East Derby battle.
Dolan made the fight competitive and pushed forward all night in a fight he felt he couldn’t afford to lose. But it was the champions cleaner work that eventually saw him retain the Lonsdale belt via a unanimous decision with the judges scores reading 118-111, 118-111 and 117-112.

Birtley man Dickinson, hurt Dolan with a big left hook in the eighth, but the challenger braved his way through the round to his credit and recovered to see the fight out but his final efforts over the distance was short and Dickinson deserved his win, he is a good champion!

Dickinson was made to work hard for the win and Dolan put in a brave effort, Dickinson had to work hard for his victory. Dolan had said before the fight that at 33, if he lost would consider his future in the game and may now call it a day, it would be a shame after his persistent performance here. Dickinson had faced Dolan before, less than three years ago over 10 rounds, and as on that occasion it was Dickinson’s accuracy and power that proved the difference.

The champion claimed the vacant Lonsdale belt against Shane McPhilbin in October last year and will now be looking to make two more defences this year as he bids to win the strap outright.
