British super-featherweight champion Gary Buckland takes on Fernando David Saucedo for the vacant WBC Silver International title on the Buenos Aires undercard of Martin Murray’s challenge for the WBA middleweight championship against Sergio Martinez tonight.
The tough experienced Saucedo (46 – 5 – 3, 6KOs) has lost only once in the last 8 years and that was against Chris John (UD12) for the WBA super world featherweight title and presents Buckland (27-2, 9KOs) with the most daunting challenge of his career, but he is confident he will do a job on his Argentinian opponent.
“I’ve got two notches on my belt to win the British title outright and I only need one more, but this is a shortcut to a world title,” said Buckland.
“I’ve watched Saucedo on DVD and he’s a good fighter, so I know I won’t be in for an easy night over there. He boxed Chris John for a world title and he showed he’s a tough boxer with a good guard who likes to open up in his own time.
“But I think with my aggression I can go there and do a job on him.” added Buckland.
Prediction: Buckland can take this on points, but he will have to make it convincing to get the nod.
