Matthew “The Knife” Macklin, will be hoping to impress in his WBC world title eliminator on Saturday night in Dublin’s Three Arena.
Macklin will be headlining Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom card – broadcast live on Sky sports 2 from 7.30pm. His opponent is the seemingly uninspiring Argentine Jorge Sebastian Heiland, the proverbial gate keeper to Macklin’s mooted mega clash with Lineal Middleweight king Miguel Cotto.
Whilst Heiland’s CV may not present nightmare inducing reading for Macklin, the Birmingham and Tipperary man has brushed off any notion that he is looking past his foe . “It’s a tough, tough fight, the fight I need at this stage…I know I will beat him and it will set me up for a big 2015”.
The “big” 2015 Macklin refers to could certainly come to fruition with a win in Ireland. As well as Cotto filling the crosshair of ambition, a long awaited clash with fellow contender Andy Lee looks likely if Lee can overcome Matt Koborov for the Vacant WBO strap in December.
