Emotions ran high yesterday in Soho and Stephen Goodwin stated that there will be no free television viewing for the fights on Saturday 26th May in the Brentwood Centre in Essex, he said that it would be value boxing and he feels that his main aim is to give boxers a chance of a big fight. “I did it with Yassine El Maachi and now I’ve done it with Adams.”
“I’ve looked at other options like Matt Skelton and boxers like that, but when I can make the match with Audley Harrison it gives Ali Adams the biggest coverage he’s ever got and people now know who he is so
if he can now deliver and win on Saturday we can move upwards and onwards and it’s all done for Ali Adams to fulfil what I promised him when I signed him last year.” added Goodwin.
Former Olympic champion Audley Harrison finished his training camp and was very confident in today’s press conference in London, he sparred with Malik Scott and Joe Hanks and said, “I’m glad to be back and I’m grateful for the opportunity, after the David Haye fight I think a lot of people thought it will be the last of me and thought it would be over, I’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting for a door for me to come back in, I’ve had nothing really concrete, I took the fight whilst I was in rehab and you saw what happened . Come Saturday I will be turning up and doing a job and I’m here and I’m ready.” He did also state previously that he wanted to give Ali Adams a lesson in the sweet science and was looking forward to fights with David Price, Tyson Fury, Johnathan Banks or Seth Mitchell.
Ali Adams is teamed up with trainer Don Charles and within signing up in October 2011 he won his first title at York Hall London with a third round knockout. Don Charles said at the press conference, “People can only comment on their observations , but one thing I can promise you, he’s only been with me a short while, ten months now and he’s only had two fights under my training and he’s won them both by stoppage, I believe that I’ve changed him and added what he’s needed.” Don Charles also trains heavyweight Dereck Chisora.
Adams said, “This fight means a lot to me, I’m fighting for my father, my father died last year on 26th May and it’s going to be the one year anniversary and I’m doing it for myself and my father, this is my time and this is my career and this is my fight and Saturday is going to be my victory.”
Other fights on the undercard include a real grudge match with Michael “Chunky” Devine and Robin Deakin , this will be settled inside the ring as both fighters have a few street incidents, Deakin has lost 46 fights out of 47 and Devine is a new prospect under Goodwin Promotions with a current record of 7 fights with 1 loss. Yassine El Maachi winner of the recent prize-fighter has had to pull out with a knee injury however there will still be a line up of some other spectacular fights on the night.
