Dean Powell,
the matchmaker for Frank Warren Promotions, has contacted Britishboxers.co.uk to
dismiss spurious rumours that he will not be involved in the upcoming fight
between David Haye and Dereck Chisora at London’s Upton Park venue on July 14
due to the ongoing dispute between the organisers of the show, who are
operating under the Luxembourg Boxing Federation’s auspices, and the BBBoC.
Powell will be working with Dereck Chisora come fight night despite claims to
the contrary that were posted on boxing forums last Saturday night and on
Wednesday afternoon.
The forum posts
in question state that Powell had told a group of FWP fighters that he would
not be able to work with them on the night due to the BBBoC’s threat to take
action against any licence holder who appears on the bill in a working
capacity. Powell, though, informed me that he will be there alongside “Del Boy”
as he attempts to score a win over former WBA titlist Haye.

“It is not true
that I won’t be working, the information is incorrect and I will be working at
West Ham in my usual capacity,” said Powell. “I
will be working in the corner alongside [Chisora’s trainer] Don Charles and
also as a cutsman and wrapping hands – I want to make that clear. My position
is this – I will be standing alongside Frank Warren, Don Charles, Dereck
Chisora, and all the rest of Frank’s fighters and staff. It is nonsense to say
otherwise. I want it to be corrected. I’d like to know where people get this
‘information’ from because it simply isn’t true.”

Powell also
revealed that Cromer’s Liam Walsh, 12-0 (9), will take on Italy’s Dominico
Urbano, 25-3-1 (10), for the vacant WBO European Super featherweight title on
the bill. It will Walsh’s first outing since his memorable win over Paul
Appleby in September of last year and the 26-year-old will hope to impress
against the 36-year-old former EBU-EU featherweight title-holder.
