On September 17th at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester Alex Rutter (9-0) and Michael Gomez Jr (5-0) will fight each other for the Central area lightweight title in what promises to be a great fight between two unbeaten prospects.
Both Mancunian’s they live near each other, have sparred countless rounds over the years and have many mutual acquaintances, friends and many things in common. Rutter is now trained by Pat Barrett at the Collyhurst and Moston Boxing Club and joined the setup a week after Gomez left the stable. Both boxers are managed by Steve Wood and it is Steve’s VIP Promotions that will stage the event in their home town.
This is a really good trade fight and it will go some way in determining who will make the step up and who will need to re-build. Matchmaking like this keeps small hall boxing alive and it is a fight that has Manchester talking!
“It’s over 10 rounds, so it’s going to shut me down to the ground, I can bide my time, pick my shots and I can break him down and thats what I plan on doing.” Rutter told British Boxers.
“I don’t think he will be able to combat what I am going to bring. I’m going to bring it proper and I’m really excited, I just hope he turns up and makes a great fight for everyone there, because it has the makings of a great fight.”
