Liverpool’s WBO super-welterweight world champion Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith will take on Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, home of the Dallas Cowboys on September 17th.
Smith (23-0-1, 13KOs) won his title last year when he knocked-out American John Thompson in seven rounds at the Manchester Arena. He has since made two successful defences of his belt and now enters the biggest fight of his career against one of the best pound for pound campaigners in world boxing.
Alvarez (47-1-1-KO32) the former WBC middleweight champion previously held the WBA and WBC super-welterweight belts but lost them in 2013 when he suffered his only pro defeat against Floyd Mayweather in 2013. Alvarez, is coming off a 6th-round stoppage over Amir Khan in May and will enter the fight as a clear favourite.
But Smith is unfazed by odds and opinion and says he will come to Dallas to win and not just to make up the numbers and be there for Alvarez to have an easy night on Mexican independence weekend.
In the video above Smith and his team arrive ion Dallas for the official press conference and for the first time gets to see the fantastic stadium where he will lock horns with the red haired ‘Canelo’
