Joe Murray (22-2, 9KOs) had his first fight of 2017 on Friday night at the Victoria Warehouse and the first outing since his destrutive KO of the year against Rashid Kassem in October.
Murray, 30, went in against Nicarguan Reynaldo Cajina (14-41-5, 10KOs) and made light, early work of his opponent, walking through the import with ease in the first round.

After the fight Joe spoke to British Boxers about the win and about his frustrations at not getting the big domestic fights. The Mancunian who comes to the ring in a pair of Dungarees and a straw hat (although he lost the hat prior to coming on tonight) believes he is being avoided by everyone, and is longing for a big fight to establish himself and secure a title shot. Joe picked up the lightly regarded International Challenge belt with the win, but says he is just biding his time until the big fights are made.
In this interview, Cotton Eyed Joe also offers out a challenge to former gym mate Anthony Crolla and says if the former WBA world lightweight champion is looking for a comeback fight closer to home, then he throws his straw hat in the ring (when he finds it) and challenge’s Crolla to face him.
