Former English, British, Commonwealth and WBA interim champion Derry Mathews was one of the most popular fighters with the reputation of taking on all comers.

Now retired he has decided to stay in the sport and become a coach, setting up the ‘Derry Mathews Boxing Academy’ in his home city of Liverpool. He is already building up a healthy stable which includes heavyweight David Price and Jazza Dickens.

As well as the professional fighters under his wing, Derry also has a buzzing amateur team and recently he set up boxing classes for people with disabilities. We visit Derry at his gym to find out how he is in retirement and what he is up to. Interview by Chris Maylett.
