Liverpool’s Sam Maxwell will challenge Alejandro Meneses for the vacant IBO title at 140lbs at the city’s M&S Bank Arena on April 22nd. Probellum announced the fight on Tuesday via social media, marking Maxwell’s return to the ring following his unanimous victory against Akeem Ennis-Brown last august where he secured the British and Commonwealth straps.

Meneses already has five defeats on his professional record compared to Maxwell’s clean 16-0-0 resume, with the winner one step closer to challenging for a major title at world level in the near future. The bout will take place on the undercard of Liverpool man Paul Butler‘s challenge for the WBO bantamweight title, held by John Riel Casimero of the Philippines. A wealth of Scouse talent is set to feature on the night, including brothers Peter and Joe McGrail as they look to continue their professional journey, as well as featherweight contender Jazza Dickens, super-middleweight Rocky Fielding and super-flyweight Blane Hyland.

Liverpool’s Paul Butler will hope to become world champion again on April 22nd after previously holding the IBF strap at super-fly.
