The highly anticipated undisputed middleweight contest between arch rivals Savannah Marshall and Claressa Shields is now being looked at for September 10th in the capital, according to esteemed boxing journalist Dan Rafael.
Rafael (DanRafael1) tweeted on Monday afternoon: “per source: @Claressashields v. @Savmarshall1 to unify for the undisputed women’s middleweight title will take place on Sept. 10 in London. Expect official announcement after the July 4th holiday“.
The pair were set to face-off this Summer before an injury to Marshall forced a delay, pushing the bout back closer to the fall. The pair have engaged in heated verbal spats both ringside and on social media in a rivalry that spans over a decade, with Hartlepool’s Marshall the only fighter to ever defeat Shields both amateur and pro. Shields has gone on to become a two-weight undisputed champion, while Marshall is one of the most exciting female fighters in the sport today.
