Savannah Marshall has confirmed she has triggered her rematch clause for a second fight with undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields.

The former middleweight world champion told Soccer AM that both Sky and BOXXER are targeting Newcastle United’s St James’ Park as a possible venue for next summer.

The pair fought across ten hellacious rounds at the O2 Arena in October in a fight which resulted in a unanimous decision victory in favour of America’s Shields.

The first fight saw an entertaining build-up between the two whose rivalry dates back to 2012 when Marshall handed her Shields in the amateurs.

The loss remains Shields’ only defeat as amateur and pro with the American going on to win two Olympic gold medals as well as world titles in four weight divisions as a professional.

She also remains the only fighter in history to have won undisputed titles in two weight classes.
