Liverpool light-heavyweight Callum Smith will take on Poland’s undefeated Pawel Stepien next month ahead of a potential showdown with Artur Beterbiev later in the year.
The fight will take place on March 11th at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena as part of Matchroom Boxing‘s newly-announced schedule for the first four months of 2023.
Smith currently sits as mandatory challenger for light-heavyweight king Beterbiev‘s WBC title.
Victory over Stepien next month will clear the way for a showdown with Beterbiev who halted Britain’s Anthony Yarde inside eight rounds in London last weekend.
Stepien has fought all 19 of his pro contests in his native Poland but nevertheless finds himself ranked seventh in the IBF rankings at 175lbs.
Australia’s super-lightweight Liam Paro is also set to clash with Liverpool’s Robbie Davies Jr over ten rounds in the chief support.
Paro is currently ranked number one in the WBO ratings with the winner likely to land a shot at Josh Taylor‘s WBO title later in the year.
Central Area light-heavyweight champion Mickey Ellison is also set to rematch Thomas Whittaker-Hart following Ellison’s ten-round victory over the Liverpudlian in October.
Top prospect Diego Pacheco will make his UK debut when he takes on Little Lever’s Jack Cullen at super-middleweight, while Rhiannon Dixon contests for her first major belt when she takes on Vicky Wilkinson for the Commonwealth lightweight title.
Popular heavyweight Johnny Fisher is also set to feature alongside lightweights Campbell Hatton, Aqib Fiaz and super-middleweight Paddy Lacey.
