Matchroom Boxing have announced two stellar signings in WBC super-lightweight Regis Prograis and Cuba’s elite amateur star Andy Cruz.
The announcements came in the early hours of Sunday morning as promoter Eddie Hearn continues his global expansion with DAZN.
Prograis, a two-time super-lightweight champion, claimed the WBC belt with an eleventh-round stoppage of Jose Zepeda in November.
The American has been linked with a 140lb showdown against Jack Catterall, who also teamed up with Hearn and Matchroom in recent months.
Prograis will headline his first show on DAZN on June 17th in his hometown New Orleans against Australia’s Liam Paro.
Cruz has also penned a long-term promotional deal with Matchroom after enjoying a glittering career in the amateur code.
The 27-year-old won three World Amateur Championships medals while also claiming gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Touted as one of the greatest ever fighters in the vested code, Cruz now joins a glittering lightweight contingent in the paid ranks.
Hearn reacted to the announcements on Twitter, writing: “Welcome to the team the number one 140lber in the world Regis Prograis – straight out the gate June 17 in New Orleans!”
In relation to Cruz, Hearn was not hesitant to state how highly he rates the Cuban.
“This may turn into our greatest signing ever! Welcome to the team Andy Cruz – I believe this man beats everyone at 135lbs!”
