The WBA have now scheduled a purse bid Rolando Romero‘s mandatory defence of his super-lightweight title against London’s Ohara Davies for Monday, July 24th.

The purse bid will be split 75-25% in favour of Romero who claimed the vacant belt with a controversial ninth-round stoppage over Israel Barroso in May.

Referee Tony Weeks stepped in to end the contest despite Romero failing to land a significant blow during the flurry.

Both men had also been floored earlier in the fight and all three judges had the 40 year old Barroso winning at the time of the stoppage.

Davies meanwhile picked up an impressive ninth-round stoppage of his own over Lewis Ritson in May and is ranked number one with the WBA.
