BOXXER have announced that Joshua Buatsi will no longer be fighting Dan Azeez on Saturday after the latter withdrew with a back injury.
Promoter Ben Shalom has however since confirmed that the show will go ahead with Mikael Lawal‘s British cruiserweight title defence against Isaac Chamberlain filling the main event slot.
BOXXER released a statement earlier today confirming the fight has been postponed.
The statement reads: “Due to a back injury suffered by Dan Azeez in his final training session, it has today been confirmed with deep regret, despite Dan’s best efforts, that the world title eliminator between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez this Saturday October 21 at the O2 will have to be postponed.
“Further details on Saturday’s event – including ticket information and a revised date for Buatsi-Azeez – will be communicated shortly.
“All tickets will automatically remain valid for the rescheduled main event and a full refund will be made available for anyone not able to attend.”
Azeez has subsequently released his own statement expressing his frustration at the fight being postponed at such late notice.
“I’m devastated for this to happen on fight week. I’ve never had to withdraw from a fight in my career before.
“I want to apologise to all the fans, especially those travelling to the fight. I am also extremely sorry to my opponent Joshua Buatsi, to my promoter and to everyone involved who has worked so hard on this date.
“I hope this fight can be rescheduled as soon as possible.”
