Herbie Hide will come up against unbeaten Geordie Jon-Lewis Dickinson, in his first fight in the Prizefighter Cruiserweight 11tournament at the York Hall, Bethnal Green on Friday, April 30

Dickinson, who is a former ABA cruiserweight champ, had been invited by Barry Hearn to take part in the tournament, all the other seven competitors have been confirmed by Hearn’s Matchroom team.

The former WBO world heavyweight champion Hide, who at 38 and the oldest fighter to be taking part, will be the bookies’ favourite, and with £32,000 on the table for the winner, and the unexpected winners in the past in this tournament, the favorite is not always the winner, which makes the Prizefighter’ a much welcomed addition to the British ring.

Confirmed fighters on the show are Commonwealth champion Darren Corbett, Mark Krence who has fought for the British heavyweight title, and hard-hitting veteran John Anthony. As always, there will be a number of highly-rated prospects looking to have a career-changing night by winning Prizefighter.

Jon-Lewis Dickinson is undefeated from his five fights, while Wayne Brooks, Zahid Kahut and Leon Williams are hoping to catapult themselves into the boxing big-time.

This will be the 11th Prizefighter event and previous winners have gone on to fight for British, Commonwealth and European titles.

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport’s Managing Director, was expecting another great night of boxing entertainment.

He said: “Boxing in the UK is buzzing right now and we are delighted to announce the next instalment of the Prizefighter Series with the Cruiserweights on April 30th.

“Seven of the leading UK contenders will be trying to capture the crown but to do so they will have to take out the number one WBC contender and favourite to win Prizefighter Herbie Hide.”

The Prizefighter was responsable for Audley Harrison being able to resurect a career that was going knowhere, and gave Harrison a platform to get back in the domestic heavyweight scene, and eventually winning the European belt, so can the Prizefighter resurect Herbie Hides career? We look forward to finding out.

Tickets cost £35 and £60 and are available from Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900. www.matchroomsport.com The full show will again be broadcast live and in HD on Sky Sports.
