|Matador Carl Froch? its like a red rag to a bull|
Former WBC super-middleweight champion of the world Carl Froch has dismissed suggestions that his next fight will be in a bull ring in Majorca, Spain against Arthur Abraham.
The Nottingham boxer, who lost his world title after suffering the first defeat of his career to Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler in April, by unanimous decision in the Super Six World Boxing Classic series.
All three judges gave Kessler the verdict, scoring the fight 117-111, 115-113, 116-112, a decision that Froch later called a “sham.”
Froch is hoping to stage the fight with Abraham, in the exciting Super Six tournament, in his home town of Nottingham, with Meadow Lane, Notts Counties football ground and the Trent FM Arena his venues of choice, or at a push in America!
But Abraham’s promoter Kalle Sauerland has totally different ideas to Froch and is adamant that the fight takes place in Germany, where Armenian – German Abraham is based.
A neutral option Sauerland is willing to compromise on though, is to stage the fight in a big European venue, with Spain and Switzerland as his next preferred choices.
“It’s all about money in this business and we haven’t received any financial offer from Nottingham, so, as it stands, we won’t be going there,” said Sauerland. “And I’m not really interested in America. We’ve looked at Zurich and Majorca. I love the idea of a bull ring in Majorca.”
Froch who is recovering from a burst ear drum and a cut eye, suffered in the Kessler fight, ruled out a matador role against Abraham in a Spanish bull ring “I don’t fancy that, what about the heat?” he said.
This boring! where will it take place argument was getting a bit stale, and with Germany and Nottingham the front runners in staging it, things have ‘hotted up a bit now, a red hot rag as been thrown into the ring!
