Amir Khan was ringside in Las Vegas last night for the Juan Manuel Marquez vs David Diaz rematch with a close eye on proceedings, with regards to fighting the winner, which was Marquez via a 12 rounds points decision.
“I would like to see myself with Marquez in December for my next fight. I have a date open for December 11th, and need to find a place for the fight, but I will be ready.” Khan may not be happy that Marquez failed to mention his name when he spoke about whom he wanted to fight next in the post fight interview.
It seems like Marquez 36, has designs on a 3rd fight rubber match with old foe Manny Pacquiao in December. But with Pacquiao seemingly tied up with other potential foes, including possibly Floyd Mayweather, and make no mistake that fight will happen next year.
So it looks like Khan 23, who is the current WBA light-welterweight champion, will get his wish to fight the top 10 pound for pound ranked fighting legend Marquez.
Other possible opponents for the December date include Marcos Maidana, Victor Ortiz, Michael Katsidis, Timothy Bradley or Devon Alexander, but it looks like Joel Casamayor as ruled himself out after suffering defeat on the undercard to Robert Guerrero.
Marquez will fight again, December possibly and If he can’t get Pacquiao back in the ring, he could well take the Khan option,or meet Robert Guerrero.
Guerrero, from California is a fighter who gave up his world super-featherweight belt to care for his wife, Casey, during her battle against leukemia, and was returning for his first major fight since her recovery to score a knockdown and a shock unanimous decision over former two-division world champion Casamayor.
Khan vs Marquez looks like it will happen in December, but it seems a long time to wait for Khan since he fought Paulie Malignaggi in May, and he will hope to fight more often in the future.
