“Celtic War” ends with victory for Ireland

Scotland’s middleweight hope Craig McEwan lost his undefeated record in Connecticut last night after Irishman Andy Lee pulled off a late stoppage in the ten round contest, with McEwan was seemingly on his way to a well-earned victory.
McEwan, 28, showed the better work for the majority of what was close fight, until the last two rounds. A tired looking McEwan was put down in the ninth, before a big left hand from 26 year-old southpaw landed in the last round and the referee call the fight off, with just over two minutes of the fight remaining.
McEwan has been based in the US with Freddie Roach for his entire career so far and had racked up 19 straight wins, before coming up short against Andy Lee, who now moves on to 25-1, 19 KO’s and one step closer to a world title shot.
