Amir Khan’s next defence of WBA light-welterweight title and unification fight with IBF champion Zab Judah on July 23, was confirmed today at the official press conference and will take place at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.
Khan 24, from Bolton wants to fight the best in his division and believes that out of all the names put to him, after original opponent Timothy Bradley pulled out, Judah was the toughest challenge out there for him.
A win for Khan is equally rewarding, giving him the chance to add Judah’s world title strap to his collection and get another named scalp on his record.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to unify the 140-pound division which always has been a dream of mine,” said Khan at the presser.
Kathy Duva, chief executive of Main Event Promotions, said Judah was desperate to get the fight on with Khan and pushed to make the fight happen regardless of tight negotiations with the fight contracts. Judah reiterated her words when he spoke about getting the fight he had prayed for.
‘My goal is to be undisputed champion at two weights. I did it at 147 and I’m gonna do it at 140 starting with Amir Khan. I’m gonna work hard. I’m very experienced, so whichever way he brings the fight, I can deal with it and take it from him. I got what I wanted, so I am happy. Now it’s time to go work. I’ve been praying on this fight.” said Judah.
