I am extremely saddened to hear of the passing of former star referee Roy Francis.

Roy was a boxing man through and through, but above all that a thoroughly nice man, who was always great company.

Roy spent his lifetime in boxing both as a boxer and a world class official and I was extremely proud to present him with an award on the occasion of his last refereeing appointment on one of my promotions.

Sincere condolences to Roy’s family.

Roy Francis, born 14-03-1935, died on 23-09-2016. RIP to a great “third man”
