On October 8th, Macaulay McGowan (10-0, 1 KO) will make the trip to Harrow to take on hometown favourite Jez Smith (7-0, 3 KO’s) in an eight round clash of unbeaten prospects. So far, life as a professional has been plain sailing for the 21 year old from Wythenshawe, but McGowan – who trains under Anthony Farnell at Arnie’s Gym in Manchester – isn’t the type to settle for the path of least resistance and he didn’t hesitate for a second when offered the chance to prove himself against a fellow hopeful
“This is how it should be,” McGowan tells British Boxers in this exclusive video. “It’s two unbeaten young lads who have both got egos and are both too stubborn to say no. I’ll be beating him and that’s the end of it.
“I don’t think he [Smith] holds any threat. I feel like I’m really gonna do a number on him. I don’t see any other way it can go. I feel I’m gonna smash him and that’ll be the end of it.
“This will be another eight rounder and then I’ll be pushing on for titles. After I win this, we’ll have a look where we’re gonna go but 2017 will be interesting. Very interesting.”
