Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk has told Sky Sports that the now anticipated rematch between Usyk and Britain’s Anthony Joshua could potentially land in Saudi Arabia at the end of June.

Krassyuk said that ‘Saudi Arabia is under discussion at the moment. Late June is the time we are considering now’, though Krassyuk did caveat the statement with the time in which contracts can be signed being a key factor.

Joshua surrendered his WBO titles to Usyk last September at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, losing a unanimous decision on points to the former undisputed cruiserweigfht champion of the world. There were plans for an immediate rematch to take place around April or May before Russia’s invasion of Usyk’s home country Ukraine, the thirty-five-year-old opting to return and defend his home country from the Putin regime. Rumours began to circulate that Joshua would take an interim bout to prevent him from becoming stale while the world waited to see how events played out in Eastern Europe, with any rematch with Usyk put on ice for the immediate future.

Last week however, Usyk decided that he would take the rematch next after all, confirming the decision in an Instagram post, all eyes now ahead for a huge showdown between two of the world’s best heavyweights, with the winner of the upcoming bout between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte keeping a keen eye on how the fight transpires.
