Dudley’s Danny Ball and Sheffield’s Anthony Tomlinson will face-off for the vacant English welterweight title in Manchester on May 27th.

Matchroom Boxing confirmed the fight will take place on the undercard of Leigh Wood‘s rematch against WBA featherweight champion Mauricio Lara on Monday afternoon.

Ball previously fought Ekow Essuman for the British and Commonwealth crowns at 147lbs in October 2021.

The 26-year-old suffered a broken jaw in a sixth-round defeat at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, his only loss in 14 outings, but has since rebounded with two wins in the Midlands.

BBTV spoke to Ball about a potential fight with Tomlinson at the end of 2022.

Tomlinson, like Ball, only has one defeat to his name which came against Dante Jordon inside nine rounds in August 2021.

‘The Truth’ has picked up two six-round wins in his home city since and looks to add the English title to the Central Area belt he won in 2018.

Matchroom also confirmed super-lightweight Jack Catterall will make his professional debut on the card against Irishman Darragh Foley.
