BOXXER have announced that Lauren Price and Kirstie Bavington will meet in the first ever female British title fight on May 6th.

The contest, to be held at welterweight, will take place on the undercard of Joshua Buatsi‘s light-heavyweight showdown against Pawel Stepien at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena.

Wales’ Price secured Olympic gold in Tokyo two years ago and has won all three of her professional contests since turning over in June last year.

The 28-year-old reacted to the announcement on Twitter, writing: “First title as a professional locked in.

“Honoured to be making history in the sport of boxing again by fighting for the first ever British female title.”

Wolverhampton’s Bavington also responded to the fight, simply writing: “The story continues.”

The 30-year-old ‘Bavvo’, 7-3-2, defeated Timea Belik to claim the vacant European welterweight crown in May last year.

A comfortable ten-round defence of the title against Naomi Mannes followed before Bavington suffered a shock defeat to Kandi Wyatt over ten rounds last month.

The undercard also features a ten-round middleweight encounter between Tyler Denny and Macauley McGowan, as well as the return of Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Ben Whittaker who faces Jordan Grant over six rounds at light-heavyweight.
