Leigh Wood will officially rematch WBA featherweight champion Mauricio Lara in Manchester on May 27th, Matchroom Boxing have announced.
The latter stopped Wood in his hometown Nottingham two months ago after landing a devastating left hook which floored the Briton with 20 seconds remaining in the seventh round.
Wood bravely climbed back to his feet but trainer Ben Davison threw in the towel to save his man from further punishment against the heavy-handed Mexican.
The rematch will now take place at Manchester’s AO Arena as Wood looks to become a two-time featherweight champion.
Lara meanwhile hopes to make his first successful defence before moving on to unification bouts at 126lbs.
New Matchroom signing Jack Catterall will also appear on the card.
