Manchester’s Zelfa Barrett will now take on former world title challenger Jason Sanchez in Cardiff on April 22nd.

Barrett was initially set to face fellow Briton Alex Dilmaghani in the Welsh capital before the latter was forced to withdraw after being ruled medically unfit to fight.

New Mexico’s Sanchez lost a unanimous decision to Oscar Valdez for the WBO featherweight title in 2019 and returned to winning ways in February after suffering two consecutive defeats Stateside.

The fight will mark Barrett’s return to the ring after his ninth-round defeat to Shavkat Rakhimov for the IBF super-featherweight belt in November.

Rakhimov headlines the show as he looks to defend his title against Wales’ Joe Cordina.

The Welshman previously held the IBF strap at 130lbs before he was stripped after failing to defend against Tajikistan’s Rakhimov.

Barrett and Rakhimov clashed for the vacant title as a result and, despite some early success for Barrett, the pace caught up with the Mancunian and he was handed his first stoppage defeat.

Dilmaghani explained his withdrawal from the fight on Twitter.
