Promoter Ben Shalom says British light-heavyweights Dan Azeez and Joshua Buatsi have agreed to fight each other next.
Shalom also denies reports claiming Azeez was approached about a fight with WBA champion Dmitry Bivol.
“The Buatsi fight is one they’ve both agreed to, it’s definitely one that happens this year, which British boxing fans are hugely excited about”, Shalom told Sky Sports.
Azeez, who holds the British, Commonwealth and European titles at 175lbs, was ringside to witness Buatsi’s return in Birmingham two months ago.
In his first fight since signing with BOXXER and Sky, Buatsi defeated Pawel Stepien over ten rounds via unanimous decision.
The bout was also the Londoner’s first appearance since he defeated Craig Richards twelve months earlier.
Azeez meanwhile has enjoyed a glittering 18 months which start with a seventh-round stoppage win against Hosea Burton to claim the vacant British light-heavyweight title in November 2021.
The Commonwealth was added 13 months later when he stopped Rocky Fielding in eight before defeating France’s Thomas Faure in Paris to claim the European belt in March.
Both men embraced after Buatsi’s victory over Stepien and were open about a potential fight next.
A date and venue for the bout is yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.
