Six boxers from the GB Boxing Podium Squad are now guaranteed a medal following Sunday’s quarter finals.
.
The six medal-winning boxers include five from England and one from Wales.
.
The boxers are:
.
• Sean McGoldrick, Wales, 52kg
• Tom Stalker, England, 60Kg
• Bradley Saunders, England 64Kg (right)
• Callum Smith, England, 69Kg
• Anthony Ogogo, England, 75Kg
• Simon Vallily, England, 91Kg
.
All six will compete in Monday’s semi-finals in Delhi.
.
The performance means that more than half of the England boxing team will have won a medal. Of the 12 boxers selected from GB Boxing’s Podium Squad (nine from England and three from Wales), six have secured a medal.
.
“To secure six medals is an excellent performance by the GB Boxing squad,” said GB Boxing’s Performance Director, Rob McCracken. “It has been high quality competition and the GB boxers have had some tough draws so for half of the squad we selected to come away with a medal is an excellent return and we hope to turn some of our guaranteed bronzes into gold and silver over the next couple of days.
.
“The performance of the boxers builds on the superb progress the GB Boxing squad has made in 2010, which has seen it win 28 medals in 6 elite international competitions, and augurs well for more success at 2012.”
.
The semi finals line-up is as follows:
