European champion Darren Barker is being lined up to face world middleweight king Sergio Martinez this Autumn in what would be a massive fight for British boxing and a chance for Barker to realise his boxing dreams on the biggest of stages.
Barker’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed via his Twitter account that terms have been agreed for an October contest – although contracts for the bout had yet to be signed.
And on his own Twitter account, London-born Barker wrote: “It’s show time baby! Looks like the fight I’ve been after has been agreed! Don’t doubt me, follow and support me. Thanks for all your support – gotta tough one so gonna need it but I’m extremely confident!”
The fight represents a massive step up in class for Barker, with Martinez holding the WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine titles – and ranked second in the pound-for-pound list behind Manny Pacquiao.
The Argentinean has lost just twice in 51 contests – to former world welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams.

Martinez, though, avenged the majority decision defeat to Williams with a devastating second-round knockout in 2010, while he followed that up by stopping Serhiy Dzinziruk last time out.
Barker, though, remains unbeaten in 23 fights, having won the British, Commonwealth and European titles.
The 29-year-old’s biggest win to date came in his last fight when he reclaimed the European belt with victory over Domenico Spada.
What a great fight this is to look forward to!
